FAQ
- Q?What is Greenleaders DC’s main business?
-
A.
Our core business is online content publishing in text, audio, and video formats. We divide our content publishing into two basic distribution lines: online media content (news, interviews, podcasts, and blogs for syndication and social networking sites) and e-learning materials for online and blended learning environments (interactive documents, webchats, and audiovisual presentations).
- Q?What is the difference between Greenleaders DC’s educational & media services and customized services?
-
A.
Greenleaders DC publishes online media content and produces educational materials, which carry the Greenleaders DC brand. These materials may either be accessed for free (media content) or be purchased or licensed (educational materials). Production of online media and educational materials is the core business activity of Greenleaders DC. Under our customized services, we make Greenleaders DC’s multimedia production facilities available to businesses, government agencies, and other institutions that wish to develop educational materials for use specifically within their own organization. Customized media or educational content is produced according to the client’s specifications, and do not carry the Greenleaders DC brand name.
- Q?Are there any copyright or other restrictions on using Greenleaders DC media and educational content?
-
A.
Our media content is available for free on the Greenleaders DC website and through social networking sites. Some Greenleaders DC educational content (GLDC Teacher Podcast) is also available for free through our website and our iTunes U page. Other educational content (complete educational modules, interactive webchats) may be purchased, licensed, or accessed via online registration and payment. Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns on using Greenleaders DC content.
- Q?What roles do Greenleaders DC partners undertake?
-
A.
Partners can undertake a variety of roles, based on their desired level of involvement. Some examples include regular contribution to audio or video media productions as commentators or interview subjects, advisory roles as subject matter experts on the development of educational modules, and participation as presenters in interactive webchats. Partners are also eligible to provide fee-based services through Greenleaders DC’s customized multimedia services. For example, a partner may have the opportunity to provide a recorded lecture or commentary for a customized educational module production.
- Q?What are the benefits of being a Greenleaders DC partner?
-
A.
Partnerships are managed on a case-by-base basis. The benefits of each partnership vary, based on an agreement of the best mix of services and participation; there is no standard list of partnership benefits. Generally speaking, partnership benefits include, but are by no means limited to, increased exposure to potential clients and customers through social media, opportunities to develop relationships with like-minded businesses and government officials, and recruitment of potential employees and associates through academic partnerships. Benefits may also take a monetary form, as discounts on Greenleaders DC education modules or fees generated from Greenleaders DC customized services projects.
- Q?Are there any fees or commitments required to become a Greenleaders DC partner?
-
A.
No. Partnerships are based on a mutual commitment to developing solutions to innovation, education, and sustainability challenges. Each partnership between Greenleaders DC and an individual, business, or organization is managed on a case-by-case basis. In some cases, a memorandum of understanding may be created in order to clearly articulate the goals of the partnership, but this is not required.
- Q?How does Greenleaders DC use an interdisciplinary approach to education and training?
-
A.
We use an interdisciplinary education approach to look at innovation and sustainability challenges in new ways and generate possible solutions. For example, a Greenleaders DC educational module exploring climate change adaptation may use an interdisciplinary approach on two levels. On the pedagogy level, we may include traditional academic approaches (lectures, testing, etc.) with elements of theatre or the arts (audiovisual presentation, photography, or artisanal crafting). On the substantive level, the module may combine scientific predictions on climate change with a historical review of traditional farming methods to find precedents of regional adaption strategies. Using various disciplines in educational settings yields a diverse and more informed educational experience, which may lead to innovative approaches to problem solving and valuable opportunities.
- Q?Why does Greenleaders DC focus on the greater DC Metro and Chesapeake Bay region?
-
A.
We choose to focus on the greater DC Metro and Chesapeake Bay area to highlight the importance of regional action in achieving sustainable prosperity. We take a regional focus for three basic reasons. First, within the greater DC Metro area there is a cluster of businesses and organizations in close proximity to federal policymaking centers. Second, local and county governments in the DC area have been among the most active in addressing sustainability challenges such as climate change, urbanization, and green workforce development. Third, the Chesapeake Bay watershed plays an immensely important role in regional economies and employment. Tourism, fisheries, recreation, and other industries are all directly impacted by the ecological condition of the bay.
